Madras High Court instructs Tamil Nadu government to apply thug law

The Madras High Court has ordered that the general application of the Thug Act cannot be allowed.

Selvaraj had filed a petition in the Madras High Court challenging the Anti-Gun Act imposed on him for involvement in financial fraud. When this case came up for hearing in the High Court today, the petitioner Selvaraj was informed that the Police has imposed a Gangster Prevention Act on him due to a personal problem related to the transfer of money between the two parties.

It was explained by the police that with the help of the petitioner, a fake bank account was opened and a fake salary certificate was prepared, and as a result of fraud up to Rs. The judge refused to accept this and said that since everything is an individual crime, it is not possible to impose a thug law on the basis of individual crime and said that he will cancel the Anti-Hooligan Act against Selvaraj.

The judges also advised the government to think seriously about who is a thug and not to use the thug law casually without necessity. The High Court said that even if a person is illegally arrested under the gangster act, it is illegal.
