It has come as a shock that the bank has deducted the loan installments of the Wayanad landslide victims from the assistance given by the government.
More than 430 people were killed in a landslide that occurred in the early hours of July 31 in Wayanad, Kerala. More than 200 people went missing. Thousands of people have lost their homes and belongings in the landslide. In this situation, it has been reported that Kerala Gram Bank has deducted the installment amount from the relief amount given by the government to the landslide survivors.
The Kerala government had ordered immediate credit of Rs 10,000 in the bank accounts of the victims of the Wayanad landslide for their immediate needs. In this case, it has been reported that the Kerala Gramin Bank has deducted the loan installment received by the landslide victims from the emergency fund provided by the government.
While many people have taken loans from Grameen Bank to build and renovate their houses, Rs.3,000 to Rs.5,000 have been taken as installments. Officials said that the Kerala government has condemned the action of the Grameen Bank and has instructed the Grameen Bank to return the loan installments.
