Will the sporty ‘Swift Sport’ or ‘Swift RS’ launch in India?

New Swift Sport:

Maruti Suzuki launched the new fourth generation Swift hatchback model in India last May. Suzuki is developing the new Swift Sport model based on the fourth generation Swift model. The company is developing a new Swift Sport model with more performance at a lighter weight than the previous Swift Sport.

New Swift Sport Powertrain:

Based on the fourth generation Swift model, Suzuki is going to use the K14D type 1.4 liter inline 4 cylinder turbo engine in the Swift Sport. This engine also has a 48V ISG mild hybrid setup. This optional hybrid setup produces an additional 13.6hp of power.

The fourth generation Swift launched in India is powered by a 1.2 liter inline 3 cylinder petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 82hp of power.

The third-generation Swift Sport currently on sale gets another 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. Coupled with a 48V ISG hybrid setup, this engine is capable of producing 140hp of power. More than 60% more power than the current Swift on sale in India.

Suzuki Swift RS:

Next to the Swift Sport in the Swift lineup is the Swift RS model with a powerful engine that goes fast. This model is sold in some markets including New Zealand with the 1.0 liter Boosterjet engine used in the Franks model sold in India. This engine is capable of producing 100hp power.

Any chance of Maruti launching these Swift Sport and Swift RS models in India?

Definitely not. Or Maruti has no intention of bringing those models to India as of now. Maruti feels the Swift is good enough for India right now.

Bringing a new Swift RS model or a Swift Sport model to India, from modifying it for India to promoting it, costs will increase in various ways. But in the Indian market where price is very important along with product quality, we don’t know if these cars will be sold at a premium price.

Most importantly, Maruti has already failed to bring the sporty RS model to India. Yes, the company launched the Belino RS in India in 2017. The car had the features expected by the customers like 1.0 liter boosterjet engine, 102hp power. However, the car did not receive the expected response. Due to this, Maruti Suzuki stopped its sale in India in 2020.

Maruti is reluctant to bring the sporty Swift model to India due to various reasons and experiences.
